Goodbye Ruby Tuesday

Tired. So tired. I’ve been planning and prepping for my programs award night since September and been trying to haul ass since January.

Now that it’s three days away I am beyond stressed/tired/hungry/scrambled/excited and a hundred other emotions I’m to busy to think of.

Yesterday I got to school around 8 a.m. and had to leave at 10 p.m. only because my building had to close. The only time I left was to treat myself to a very expensive vanilla latte from Starbucks. By the time I got home it was 11 and I was up until 3 a.m. only to wake back up at 7 a.m.

Tired is an understatement and I’m very much looking forward to the comfy night in that my bed and I are going to have watching old episodes of The Twilight Zone.

So when forcing myself to get out of bed I threw together the easiest combo I could think of and threw my hair in a messy bun using the new Goody Spin Pins I love them beyond words and the metal headband is from Urban Outfitters and was on clearance for $3. I quite liked the messy chic look I chose for today.  My top half is H&M (blazer, blouse, necklace) and without question I am wearing my TOMS which have been a savior with all the running montages my life has been filled with.

The Sweater Song

Oh spring. It hasn’t really peeked through just yet and today’s weather was odd to say the least. It flip flopped between windy, rainy, hail, cold and a bit of sun.

Today I broke out one of my favourite spring/summer sweaters. I got this last year around this time from Boathouse. I’m pretty sure it is the comfiest throw on item I own. For the past two weeks my bottom half has been jeans and my cream coloured TOMS. I’m planning an awards night for my program and being stressed to the max I refuse to wear heels with all the running around I’ve been doing.

In this awkward in between season time I have the hardest time not resorting to just jeans, but it’s my staple piece. I figure I’m a few weeks away from going on the wonderful career job hunt I might as well enjoy it.

Keeping up the laid back vibe of this gorgeous boho sweater I left my hair au natural, braided myself a headband and I added a loose light purple RW&CO shirt. My Tiffany’s necklace I got from Christmas from my grandparents is an easy way to keep it pretty. I’m positive I could wear a paper bag and still feel like a queen in my Tiffany’s key.

I’m looking forward to being able to start wearing all my dresses but for now I’m perfectly happy in my blue jeans and a sweet top.

First Date

Oh the dreadful first date. You’re both excited, curious and out to prove you’re not crazy. A couple of weeks ago a young gentleman caller took me out to a pub downtown for some dinner and pool. While the date itself sparked no real “love connection” (or whatever you kids call it these days) I quite liked the outfit I threw together for it.

I originally wore these American Eagle shoes with the outfit. But after some early morning revision while getting ready for school I decided it was too much brown with my leather jacket. Today I opted out for some nude velvet wedges from my moms closet. The shoes were a little too tight for my liking, but I only had about three hours of class, so it was worth the squeeze.

Lady Sings the Blues

It’s hard to believe that this is March weather in Canada. Strange but true. I could have easily worn some sort of maxi skirt or sundress but it just didn’t feel right rocking something so light in a winter month. So instead I put on a light pleather jacket, grey off the shoulder shirt, jeans and some good ‘ol cowboy boots. The outfit felt really grey and toneless so I added the pop of the bright blue to give it that almost spring feel. For my birthday last month I got myself what I like to call a “big girl purse.” I got it from Aldo and it just feels so grown up with how structured it is and how it matches everything. Plus it’s a gorgeous bag. While this was one of my wake up and go outfits I just threw together after three weeks of being sick in one way or another, I’m looking forward to spring when I can take more time to put together some of my outfits.

9-5

I’m beginning to reach that wondrous age in which I need to step up my A Game and start looking more…hire able you might say.  Now that it’s back to school in my last semester before I decide to a) join the “big kid” world and get a job/career, or b) further my education for an extra year in Australia, I need to start looking the part. Since this time is quickly approaching I am trying my best at a “big kid” wardrobe.

In this attempt to do so I decided on this little number:

I find a blazer is an easy way to classify any outfit plus it makes me feel like Tina Fey, so no harm in that.

This skirt was the ultimate holiday shopping steal. H&M skirt for $7. While I love love love wearing skirts and dresses, in Canada the weather is getting much colder. It has yet to have a real snow fall but leggings (in my case multiple pairs) and boots are essential.

My favourite part is the necklace that I got this Christmas from my older brother. He took me to a tiny vintage boutique and pointed it out. Simply stunning and useful.

I find the simple outfits I put together look the best and easily say young and professional.
