First Date

Oh the dreadful first date. You’re both excited, curious and out to prove you’re not crazy. A couple of weeks ago a young gentleman caller took me out to a pub downtown for some dinner and pool. While the date itself sparked no real “love connection” (or whatever you kids call it these days) I quite liked the outfit I threw together for it.

I originally wore these American Eagle shoes with the outfit. But after some early morning revision while getting ready for school I decided it was too much brown with my leather jacket. Today I opted out for some nude velvet wedges from my moms closet. The shoes were a little too tight for my liking, but I only had about three hours of class, so it was worth the squeeze.

Like the First of Spring

While spring has surprisingly been around for over two weeks here, today is officially the first day.

Spring is one of my favourite seasons. The colours, the fabrics and the inspiration. Here are a few of the things inspiring me for the 2012 spring season.

TOMS recently launched a ballet flat line. I already have a cream coloured pair and they are so incredibly comfy and I can’t wait to invest in more.

The colours of spring are incredible. Most take the opportunity to punch up the colours in their wardrobes, and I know I’m  one of them, but I love how spring is the perfect time to wear soft fabrics and pastels.

Maxi dresses are one my fashion obsessions. they are easy breezy and beautiful. I have only a few but wearing them make me feel so trendy.

Dresses in general. I have two closets and one of them is full of dresses. I am a serious dress enthusiast. Despite my pasty white legs I love showin’ those babies off.  My go to staple outfit is always always always a dress and jean jacket. So easy and yet so good.

Spring is just a wonderful season and I am so excited to try out some new trends.

My March break has been hectic to say the least. I’ve spent almost everyday of my break either at school, working or both (I did manage to squeeze a date in my busy schedule but I’ll post that outfit sometime within the next week).

Something I don’t always love to do is my hair. It takes so much time to wave it, curl it, straighten it etc. This past summer I heard some women raving about this line in the store I work at and decided to try it. While it is expensive I fell in love with this product. Using one pump and putting it through towel dry hair my hair was not only silky smooth but soft and brought out my natural waves in the best way possible. Plus it lasts me months (I restocked only two months ago).

Last month I figured it was time to try the repair mask with all the damage I put on my hair styling and dying it. Once again I’m hooked. These products smell amazing and can easily be worked into my morning routine. With the mask I only use it once or twice a week (on the days I wash my hair) for about ten minutes.

They are expensive but sometimes it’s nice to do something that makes you feel good about yourself, and I know when my hair looks good, I’ve got confidence to spare.

Under the Sea

After being sick for almost three weeks straight it was time for a pick me up. Usually that results in me getting my hair cut or dyed but this time I needed something I could just do in bed while re watching episodes of 30 Rock and Community. I resorted to painting my nails.

Usually I do all the same colour and then just giving my ring finger some sparkles, but a co worker asked me to pick out some nail polish for her and she used both the copper and dark silver colours I picked. Feeling inspired by her unexpected, in my opinion, choice I decided to mimic the thought. These colours feel so fresh and the turquoise just feels so nautical to me.

Now shortly after giving myself this D.I.Y. mani I was flipping through the March issue of Glamour and it just so happens they did a spread on blue and aqua nail polish. I always feel nerdy and cool when I mimic some sort of trend and then find it in a magazine or online.

Lady Sings the Blues

It’s hard to believe that this is March weather in Canada. Strange but true. I could have easily worn some sort of maxi skirt or sundress but it just didn’t feel right rocking something so light in a winter month. So instead I put on a light pleather jacket, grey off the shoulder shirt, jeans and some good ‘ol cowboy boots. The outfit felt really grey and toneless so I added the pop of the bright blue to give it that almost spring feel. For my birthday last month I got myself what I like to call a “big girl purse.” I got it from Aldo and it just feels so grown up with how structured it is and how it matches everything. Plus it’s a gorgeous bag. While this was one of my wake up and go outfits I just threw together after three weeks of being sick in one way or another, I’m looking forward to spring when I can take more time to put together some of my outfits.
